Frédéric Godbout, CFA
President
Originally from Granby in the Eastern Townships, Frédéric represents the 4th generation of an entrepreneurial family to work and invest in diversified sectors of the Quebec economy.
From an early age, Frédéric was involved in various family businesses, holding positions that were as formative as they were varied. Following his university studies in 2004, Frédéric’s career path led him to work for 8 years with national and international institutions, giving him a wealth of experience in the finance and investment industry. Most notably, he worked at First National Financial Corporation, one of Canada’s largest non-bank commercial lenders. Frédéric then moved on to Ivanhoe Cambridge, a subsidiary of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, one of the world’s largest pension funds, where he rose through the ranks of the organization and worked with some of the industry’s top professionals.
In 2012, Frédéric returned to the family fold and co-founded Atwater with his brother Alexandre to bring their complementary expertise under one umbrella and to perpetuate the development of the family business portfolio. Since he took the helm of Atwater in 2012, the company has made significant achievements. For example, in 2014, the company made the largest acquisition in multi-residential rental real estate in Montreal. Subsequently, Atwater has continued to grow with several other investments and acquisitions in diversified fields, including real estate, healthcare, construction and aeronautics.
Frédéric is known for his rigor and integrity. He enjoys working as part of a team, and is fortunate to be surrounded by an equally high-performance and solid team, making Atwater a business partner of choice. Frédéric is an entrepreneur at heart and is always on the lookout for new business opportunities.
Frédéric completed his bachelor’s degree in Finance & Economics with distinction at McGill University in 2004. He is also a CFA charterholder.
Alexandre Godbout
Vice-president
Alexandre Godbout has been Vice President of Atwater Capital since its founding in 2012.
Alexandre is originally from Granby in the Eastern Townships and has lived in Montreal since 2002. His family goes back 4 generations of well-established merchants and entrepreneurs.
In 2001, Alexandre obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec, as well as professional training in real estate finance at SDSU in San Diego, California.
Alexandre oversees the operations of the many companies owned and managed by Atwater Capital in the fields of residential and commercial real estate, construction, healthcare services and manufacturing.
Alexandre believes in discipline, hard work and attention to detail. For him, when all stakeholder expectations are met, he considers his job well done.
Many people from all walks of life regularly come to him for advice on a variety of subjects, drawing on his diverse experience, vast knowledge of current affairs and history of good advice.
Alexandre was a panelist at the prestigious Forum de l’immobilier multi résidentiel de Montréal for many years and has been awarded the role of president for the 2020 edition of the event.
Alexandre is an avid traveler, with a passion for history, genealogy and architecture. He plays golf and downhill skis in his spare time.
